Dr. John Smarch
I grew up in Newport Michigan, graduated from Monroe Catholic Central. My interest in Chiropractic began when my dad met a Chiropractor, Dr. Roger O'Dell. My dad suffered with lower back and knee pain. Dr. O'Dell asked my dad to visit his office, claiming he could help with the pain. After a few adjustments, he was pain free. This is when I decided Chiropractic was for me. I had a real interest in healing and promoting health and wellness.
I graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic in South Carolina in 1994, and moved to Jackson where my parents had relocated. I opened my office in 1996 with the help of Dr. Max and Sue Hensley, at their office on S. West Avenue. In 1999 I moved to my own office on Spring Arbor road. The original office was 1500 square feet, within a few years the office had grown to add the suite next door. Soon after, we needed more space. That is when we found our new office on Greenwood Ave. in December 2008.
I have been an active Century Club member of the Michigan Association of Chiropractors for 15 years. I regularly attend postgraduate seminars to stay proficient with the latest technology. I was one of the first Chiropractors in Michigan to use the Pulstar adjusting instrument. The instrument allows me to adjust patients in a less evasive, more comfortable way. With computerized analysis I can show my patients the improvement in the alignment of their spine after an adjustment. There is an actual screen showing the" before and after" graph. This data along with other clinical information obtained is used to determine the most effective course of treatment, to obtain the best results in the shortest amount of time.
I have 3 daughters, Paige, Pariz and Mena. My wife Katherine is the office manager, and is involved in the daily works of the business.
Dr. Patricia Bassett
I was born and raised in Jackson, MI. While still in high school, I dual-enrolled at both Jackson Community College (now Jackson College) and Spring Arbor University. I finished my undergraduate education at Hillsdale College where I received a Bachelor of Science of Chiropractic, Florida Campus in Port Orange, FL. I left the Sunshine State to return to my hometown to practice the healing art of Chiropractic.
I have been exposed to Chiropractic from an early age as my family were, and still are, patients of Dr. Smarch. As my education progressed, I was drawn to the health care field and eventually Chiropractic for its focus on healing and communication with patients. I have personally experienced the healing power of chiropractic and witnessed it from an early age in both family and friends. The challenge of getting to the root of the problem and being a part of the solution and healing process is my passion. I hope to be able to share that passion with as much of my community as possible.
I was not the only member of my family to choose Chiropractic as a profession. My sister and her husband are chiropractors currently practicing in Florida. We attended Palmer College together, but she and her husband could not say goodbye to the Florida sunshine.
Coming home to work with my family chiropractor is truly a privilege. Since my arrival, I have been able to become more involved in the Michigan Association of Chiropractors (MAC), which I have been a member of since 2017. I look forward to becoming more involved in both my local community as well as my chiropractic community here in Michigan.
